History

The current Guest House Paxmontana was built in 1617 as a manor house for a curate. Alongside the houses in which “Brother Klaus” – as Saint Niklaus von Flüe is known – was born and lived, it is one of the oldest houses in Flüeli-Ranft. The curate assigned to Flüeli lived in the house and used the rooms as an inn. He also gave lessons to the local children in writing and religion.

After the bishop banned clergymen from running inns in 1908, the house changed hands several times. It was this that led to the formation of a new society, the “AG Gasthaus Flüeli”. In the 1990s the building was lovingly restored by the “Gasthaus Flüeli Foundation”.

On January 1st 2009 Hotel Paxmontana AG acquired the Kurhaus along with its grounds. Since that date the Guest House has been run as a second operation alongside the Jugendstil Hotel, under the name Gasthaus Paxmontana.

There are still numerous features that are testament to the vibrant history of the Guest House Paxmontana. Take a look around the building for a real voyage of discovery.
